Total Bank Credit

Total bank credit is indicative of the strength and intensity of economic activity in India. Total bank credit is indicative of the reach of organized credit in a district. It is also indicative the intensity of business activity in a district. Over a period, the reach of organized credit has increased; however, regional disparities in financial inclusion remain.

Total bank credit - Amount outstanding
This map shows the amount outstanding in a district under total bank credit, as on March 31, 2007.

In terms of amount outstanding, the map shows that regions with strong manufacturing and service sector performance have highest ranks, which is expected.


Total bank credit - number of accounts
This map shows the number of accounts in a district under total bank credit, as on March 31, 2007.

In terms of the number of accounts, we can observe a mix of districts ranking high, some being pushed on account of numbers in any one or two of the occupation categories; for instance, Guntur of Andhra Pradesh is in the 6th rank across India, primarily on the basis of the agriculture accounts.
