Retail Trade

Retail trade is among the largest employment providers in India, after agriculture. Again, much of retail trade is in the unorganized sector. However, there is an emerging retail trade sector particularly in the form of departmental stores which are increasingly into organized sector. Retail trade, as against wholesale trade, is more indicative of the relative income levels in the districts.

In the amount outstanding on retail trades, districts with higher per-capita incomes are ranked higher.

This map shows the number of accounts in a district under credit for Retal trade, as on March 31, 2007.

The districts with high population density across the states of Kerala and West Bengal and parts of Tamil Nadu and Andhra Pradesh rank high in retail trade.
