About this Site
Indian economy is characterized by the existence and large dependence on traditional cities for economic sustenance. Cities and economies surrounding them have grown wherever there have been cases of expansion of market reach - either domestic or global - for the products/services from these cities. Though this dependence on traditional cities for economic growth is still largely intact, a few cities have indeed emerged with varied economic activities and have become centers of economy independently. Such trends take time to get noticed due to a number of lags and more importantly lack of data.
Our objective in this website is to track available quantitative and qualitative data at the level of the district and towns and disseminate these on a district level map of India. Over time, such tracking could show instances of growth of economic activities, formation of clusters, short-lived clusters and bridge gaps in estimating infrastructure and other public services need estimation. In particular this website could signal emerging governance pressures and how they are dispersed geographically.
