Indian economy is characterized by the existence and large dependence on traditional cities for economic sustenance. Cities and economies surrounding them have grown wherever there have been expansion of market reach for the products/services from these cities.
Though this dependence on traditional cities for economic growth is still largely intact, a few cities have indeed emerged with varied economic activities and have become centres of economy independently.
